Chevy / GM ECM Repair FAQ
What is a GM ECM and how do I know it’s failed?
GM uses the term ECM (Engine Control Module) for what other manufacturers call the ECU or PCM. It controls fuel injection, ignition timing, emissions, and communicates with other modules via GMLAN. Failure symptoms include P06xx internal fault codes, security light preventing start (PassLock/PassKey), U-code communication faults, or no-start with sensors all testing good.
Can you fix GM PassLock / PassKey security lockout?
Yes. GM’s PassLock and PassKey III anti-theft systems are a common failure mode we see, especially on 2000–2015 platforms. We repair the ECM and perform the security relearn so your vehicle starts normally without the 10-minute relearn workaround.
Do you repair ECMs for Duramax diesel trucks?
Yes. We repair ECMs for 6.6L Duramax LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML, and L5P engines across Silverado HD and Sierra HD platforms. Contact us with your specific engine code and fault codes.
Will the repaired ECM be plug-and-play?
Yes. We program the ECM to your VIN and perform any required security relearn before shipping it back. Most vehicles install without a dealer visit.
How long does GM ECM repair take?
Most repairs complete in 48–72 business hours from receipt. Rush 24-hour service is available for an additional $75–$100.
